megan + zach's snowy engagement session // lake tahoe, california
I always say one of my favorite things about my job as a wedding photographer is the fact that Callen and I always make friends with our clients. I think there are a lot of factors for this, like clients that share our love for adventure, and us being a husband + wife team so we naturally bond with other couples, but I think one of the biggest things that makes these lasting friendships is the quality time we spend together hiking around, exploring, and often grabbing a meal together after a session. We don't see couples' photo sessions as a block of time in our day, or a job that needs to get done, we see them as an adventurous experience with two like-minded people, and we happen to be taking photos of them as we go!
Megan and Zach's engagement session was a perfect example of this. We got to spend a lot of time with them in Reno before their session, so by the time we were heading out to Lake Tahoe together they felt more like friends and less like clients. We weren't sure of the weather and traffic conditions up in the mountains, so we decided to head up a little early and stop at a few places on our way up. After driving through thick fog and some sketchy conditions, we arrived at Chickadee Ridge for some snowy photos. We didn't have snowshoes (my fault - sorry Callen!) so we were sinking in up to our knees every few steps, but despite the struggle, we laughed our way through the forest playing in the snow and enjoying the trees. After we had had enough of the snow, we decided to head to the the lake for sunset and we were so glad we did! I had never been to Lake Tahoe and that sunset was one of the most gorgeous I'd seen! We had so much fun playing on the beach and watching the sun reflect on the mountains. Despite a rather threatening forecast, I honestly think the weather couldn't have been more perfect. We ended the day with pizza and left feeling extremely excited for their wedding in August! I can't wait to see Lake Tahoe in the summer after experiencing it's beauty in the winter!
