kat + addison's adventurous desert engagement session // mojave national preserve

When Kat and I were planning their adventure engagement session, she suggested we go to the lava tube in Mojave National Preserve. I had heard of it before, but had never been, so I was a little nervous about the challenge of shooting in a cave-like setting with minimal light but after a bit of research I was confident we could make some rad photos happen in the unique spot! We ended up exploring around the bizarre tube, finding cool beams and having a blast throwing dust into the light to make different effects! It was really important to Kat that their pup, Robin, was included in the photos and we had so much fun watching Charlie + Robin run around the cave together!

After exploring the tube, we drove through the desert toward Granite Pass, an epic area in the preserve that resembles Joshua Tree National Park but without the crowds! On our way out there, we even passed a huge patch of Joshua Trees and made a quick stop to take a few photos with them. By the time we got to Granite Pass, the wind was blowing like a crazy and a storm was coming in. We ran around the boulders as much as we could before the thunder set in and we decided it was time to wrap up our epic session. As we were saying our goodbyes, Kat commented how the day felt more like an adventurous double date than a photo session, which is pretty much our goal! It was so much fun and definitely got us psyched for their wedding in the Angeles National Forest this spring!
